Reaching the Unreached in Singapore

Interserve conducts the Friendship First Course to equip Christians on how to reach out to ordinary people of other faiths. In this post, Cat, a young adult, shares about her experience of reaching out.

I came to know Christ at the age of 16 years old when someone befriended me and shared the Gospel with me for the very first time. That stranger who led me to Christ is now my very good friend and mentor.

Ever since then, I have been serving under the Youth Ministry at my church. I used to do street evangelism every week for about 6-8 years. Currently, I am serving in the Girls Home and Sports Ministry (majority of them are of another faith). For Sports Ministry, I would meet the neighbourhood kids weekly to play basketball with them.

My goal in life has always been to reach the lost. Thus, in whichever ministry I am involved in, the ultimate goal is to win the person to Christ and lead them to have a closer relationship with God.

I started having the heart for the pre-believers when one day during our Sports Ministry, a group of kids came running to me and enjoyed my company with them. I started to build quite a good relationship with them and even got to meet some of their parents as well. Since then, I prayed for their salvation.

Initially, I didn’t really know how I should reach out to this group of kids. I wanted them to feel loved and cared for. After spending quite a fair bit of time with them, I decided to invite all of them to join us for our Youth Outreach Event. There were about 8-10 of them. Knowing that these kids came from a lower income family, I decided to give all of them a treat to cycling. Just like the story of the five loaves and two fishes, when we give God all that we have, He will create a miracle.

During our cycling time, I was paired up with this little girl. We had a double bike together. While cycling, I decided to seize the opportunity to share with her about Jesus. After sharing, I asked her if she would like to accept Jesus to be her Saviour and she said YES! To be honest, I wasn’t ready for her answer. I checked with her again and she gave a very firm yes. As we were still cycling on the road, I decided to check with her again when we reached a stopping point. She took the step of faith and received Jesus!! My heart was rejoicing with just one child coming to know Christ. BUT, God was not done yet.

During dinner time, God led me to have a meal together with three more boys. Since I was with them, I felt that I should not waste the opportunity to share. As I was sharing with them, the verse from Matthew 19:14 came into my mind, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” I was doubtful, but God reaffirmed me when they took the step of faith to receive Christ! One of the little boys shared that he saw a vision of a Man glowing in white! WOW! That has been my prayers to get to witness such conviction! My heart was rejoicing! The angels in Heaven are rejoicing over all these precious sinners turning to repentance! God loves the little children indeed.

Friendship First Course was introduced to me through LoveAids. Attending the course was a great reminder for me that God is mighty to save and it is all about building relationship.

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, do not be afraid to reach out to your friends who doesn't know God, because they are no different from any other precious sinners who needs Jesus too. Start by praying for them and God will put that desire in your heart to reach out to them. Truly, there is no greater joy than to witness them coming to know Christ personally!

Everyday is a miracle and you can be part of God’s plan to push back the gates of hell and win the lost to Christ! Start by praying! God will never fail us!
